Course Overview:
Writing well means following the rules so that you can best make yourself understood. We will review some basic grammar and look at correcting common mistakes that can make our writing harder to read. In this course we will review some basic grammar and using the parts of speech correctly in our writing.
Students will:
- identify what is meant by grammar, usage and mechanics
- identify the parts of speech and parts of a sentence.
- identify correct use of nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
- identify correct use of complements, phrases, and clauses
Course Outline:
Lesson 1: Getting Started
In this lesson we will take a look at what grammar, usage and mechanics are all about.
Lesson 2: Grammar Basics
In this lesson we will look at the parts of speech and the parts of a sentence.
Lesson 3: Nouns, Verb, Adjectives, and Adverbs
In this lesson we will look at nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
Lesson 4: Complements, Phrases and Clauses
In this lesson we will look at using complements, phrases, and clauses to improve our writing.
Lesson 5: Tone and Grammar
In this lesson we will look at how tone and grammar help to make sure our writing is accepted and understood.
Lesson 6: Edit, Rewrite and Refine
In this lesson we look at the stages of the editing process.
Lesson 7: Master the Documents You Use Most
In this lesson we take a look at the types of documents we write most often and tips for making them more effective.
Lesson 8: Improving Worker's Writing Skills
In this lesson we will look at ways management can improve the writing skills for their workers.
All necessary course materials are included.
