Course Overview:

This course is designed to empower you with the skills and knowledge to navigate and utilize Adobe Illustrator, a leading vector graphics software, with proficiency and confidence. You will start by familiarizing yourself with the Illustrator workspace, learning to select and align objects, and creating logos using basic shapes. As we progress, you will master the art of editing and combining shapes and paths, transforming artwork, and using basic drawing tools. The course will also introduce you to advanced techniques such as using the Pen tool, enhancing artwork with color, adding type to a project, creating gradients, blends, and patterns, and use brushes to create ads. By the end of this course, you will be able to place and work with images, share projects, and create pixel-perfect drawings.

This course prepares a student to take the Adobe Graphic design & illustration using Adobe Illustrator certification exam.

Students will need to have a copy of the Adobe Illustrator CC software in order to do coursework.

Students will:
  • Master the Adobe Illustrator workspace: Gain proficiency in navigating the workspace, managing panels, and adjusting views of artwork. 
  • Excel in object selection and alignment: Develop skills in selecting, aligning, and arranging objects to create cohesive designs.  
  • Create compelling logos: Harness the power of basic shapes and Image Trace to create unique and memorable logos. 
  • Manipulate shapes and paths like a pro: Learn to edit, combine, and transform shapes and paths to bring your creative vision to life.   
  • Transform artwork with finesse: Master the art of transforming content, working with repeats, and using the Puppet Warp tool to create dynamic designs. 
  • Unleash your creativity with basic drawing tools: Learn to create with the Curvature tool, Pencil tool, and add unique elements like dashed lines and arrowheads to paths. 
  • Become proficient with the Pen tool: Understand the power of the Pen tool and use it to create precise paths and points. 
  • Enhance artwork with color: Explore color modes, work with Live Paint, and learn to use color effectively to enhance your designs. 
  • Incorporate type into your designs: Add and format text, create text styles and lists, and learn techniques like text wrapping and warping to make your designs stand out. 
  • Organize your artwork effectively: Learn to use layers, gradients, blends, and patterns to organize your artwork and create visually appealing designs. 

Course Outline:

Module 1: Getting to Know the Work Area

Students will be introduced to Adobe Illustrator, learn how to open an Illustrator file, explore the workspace, work with panels, change the view of artwork, and navigate multiple artboards.

Module 2: Techniques for Selecting Artwork

Students will learn how to select objects, align objects, work with groups, and explore object arrangement.

Module 3: Make A Logo With Shapes

Students will learn how to create a new document, save your document, work with basic shapes, work with drawing modes, and use Image Trace to convert raster images into vector art.

Module 4: Editing and Combining Shapes and Paths

Students will learn how to edit paths and shapes, combine shapes, and use the Width tool.

Module 5: Transforming Artwork

Students will learn how to work with artboards, rulers and guides, transform content, use repeats, and work with the Puppet Warp tool.

Module 6: Using the Basic Drawing Tools

Students will learn how to create with the Curvature tool, create dashed lines, create with the Pencil tool, join with the Join tool, and add arrowheads to paths.

Module 7: Drawing with the Pen Tool

Students will learn why to use the Pen tool, start with the Pen tool, put their learning into practice, and edit paths and points further.

Module 8: Using Color to Enhance Artwork

Students will learn about exploring color modes, working with color, and working with Live Paint.

Module 9: Adding Type to a Project

Students will learn about adding text, formatting type, resizing and reshaping type objects, creating and applying text styles, creating text lists, wrapping text, curving text on a path, warping text, and creating text outlines.

Module 10: Organizing Your Artwork with Layers

Students will learn about layers, creating layers and sublayers, editing layers and objects, and creating a clipping mask.

Module 11: Gradients, Blends, and Patterns

Students will learn about working with gradients, creating blends, and getting creative with patterns.

Module 12: Using Brushes to Create an Ad

Students will learn about working with brushes, using Calligraphic brushes, Art brushes, Pattern brushes, Bristle brushes, and the Blob Brush tool.

Module 13: Exploring Creative Uses of Effects and Graphic Styles

Students will learn about using the Appearance panel, live effects, applying a Photoshop effect, applying 3D effects, and using graphic styles.

Module 14: Creating Artwork for a T-Shirt

Students will learn about working with symbols, Creative Cloud libraries, and global editing.

Module 15: Placing and Working with Images

Students will learn about combining artwork, placing image files, masking content, and working with image links.

Module 16: Sharing Projects

Students will learn about packaging a file, creating a PDF, creating pixel-perfect drawings, and exporting artboards and assets.

All necessary materials are included.

This course prepares a student to take the Adobe Graphic design & illustration using Adobe Illustrator certification exam.
